MICHAEL SANDNES Michael is the Director of ESBA’s Healthcare practice. A
20+ year Health Care sector senior executive and consultant, Mr. Sandnes has
led successful engagements involving profit improvement, operational restructuring,
turnarounds, and acquisition integration.
Michael has a proven track record resolving operational challenges including:
Medicare reimbursement, low census and referral development, patient care
quality, ineffective marketing and sales programs, facilities integration,
labor productivity, medical staff relations and product service enhancement. Michael has also been called upon to direct
the down-sizing and closure of facilities. Examples of Mr. Sandnes’ experience: Senior Living Care Company (200 Facilities): As Regional Vice
President of Operations, held P&L responsibility for 15 senior living and
long-term care facilities with 2,000 beds.
The operation included 11 outpatient locations in three states with $100
million of revenue. The operation was the
Company’s top EBITDA generator. Nursing Home Company (100 Facilities): As Regional Vice
President of Operations for 6 facilities located PA and Hospital Management Company: Served as CEO of a
228-bed acute care hospital; ranked 14th out of 133 facilities surveyed by the
company in relation to quality of care and profitability. Recruited 90 new physicians and created new
center of excellence in Cardiology and Orthopedics. Hospital Management Company: As a crisis manager
and Regional Vice President of Hospital Operations, had P&L responsibility
for $187 million (revenues) Physician Practice Management and Acute Care
Hospital Division with 12 facilities in three states. Reversed substantial operational loss and
reached 21% ROI, double the industry average at the time, through revenue
increases and operating cost reductions.
Hospital Management and Rehabilitation Company: As Vice President of Hospital Operations, over twenty four months,
increased annual revenue from $9 million to $75 million while preparing for
IPO. Directed and coordinated day-to-day
operational activities across 11 facilities in five states, including
negotiation of company-wide HMO/PPO health contracts. Opened four free-standing acute
