MARTIN
I. KATZ
Founder and President
Marty's
main focus is on strategic development, business reengineering and
lender negotiations.
Marty has
over thirty-five years of management and consulting experience, twenty-four
of which have been spent managing Executive Sounding Board Associates
Inc. This includes more than 300 successful engagements in a broad
array of industries. As the senior executive in the firm, Marty has
worked with companies in virtually every industry, and has served
in both advisory and line/crisis management positions. He is involved
in oversight of most engagements.
Three
recent engagements include:
$120
million provider of electronic security systems services: Company
advisor. Led the taskforce in planning and implementing the closing
of an unsuccessful division, which provided electrical engineering
services. Reorganized executive management and recruited interim Divisional
Operations Vice President to manage day-to-day affairs of that division's
wind down. Accomplished complete restructuring of all bank debt.
$100
million fully integrated paper company: Advisor to bank group.
Assisted in the development of the business plan, which included the
voluntary filing of a Chapter, 11 petition to facilitate certain balance
sheet and operational restructuring requirements. Following the filing,
the company continued its efforts to build its business and operationally
restructure itself. Assisted in the sale of the company and provided
satisfactory returns to each of the constituent bodies. Specific tasks
included:
- Negotiation of revised
union contracts
- Revitalization of the
company's product offering and pricing policies to maximize gross
margin dollars, speed inventory turns and generate consistent profit;
- Completion of detailed
overhead analysis and substantial operating cost reductions.
- Direction of the cash
management cycle, which resulted in substantial increases in the
company's operating cash flow and reduced working capital requirements.
$100
million specialty chemical manufacturer: Company advisor. Prepared
viability study for the company and its lender. Reduced overhead costs
while raising gross margins. Worked with company management to develop
and execute a stretch-out of vendor debt. Developed cash flow projections.
The Company's turnaround was so successful that the senior lender
debt was refinanced within six months. The senior lender was repaid
in full and the company has been recording strong profitability.
After
providing consulting advice on the turnaround, Marty was engaged to
assist the company in evaluating an acquisition opportunity.
